Notes
Southern French red blend from an organic farmer in Château de Flaugergues. Vivid color from the dark Mourvedre and Carignan grapes, with spice and fruit augmented by the Syrah and Cinsault. Excellent wine for dinner, great with roasts, stews and root vegetables. Native yeast fermentation and no fining.
The domaine’s first red wine named after Rimbert’s son Marceau, born during the very first harvest at the new estate. Challenging beginnings, great results: this wine is what Jean-Marie calls “the best quality-price-pleasure ratio”, a supple and yummy wine ready for all kinds of fun as long as you chill it.
Vineyard: Selection of different schist plots of the estate, certified organic
Grapes: 15% Carignan, 50% Syrah, 15% Cinsaut, 20% Mourvèdre
Making of: Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, then spontaneously fermented with only gentle extraction of the cap. The wine ferments and ages in tanks, in order to keep its freshness, and undergoes slight filtration and fining, before being bottled using gravity and a little bit of sulfur.
Tasting Note: Ruby in the glass with purple highlights. The nose is packed with crushed red berry, plum, blueberry and notes of saddle leather backed by crushed stones. The palate is supple as it delivers red and black fruit flavors backed by silken minerality and a deft touch of acidity.
Pairing: Serve with grilled meats, aged cheeses, hearty stews and spicy pasta dishes. Or just lightly chilled on its own .)
About the Producer
Jean-Marie Rimbert, a native of Provence, arrived in the Languedoc nearly
25 years ago & managed the vineyards at Château de Flaugergues for 5
years until he saved up enough to purchase his first parcels of gnarled
ancient Carignan vines that had been nurtured in schist-laden soils for the
better part of the last century.
Today, Domaine Rimbert is 20 hectares spread amongst 40 diverse parcels each with different soil compositions & expositions. The village of Berlou (where Jean-Marie has his Chai) has the highest elevation in all of the St. Chinian AOC & is the only place in the region that possesses Schist rich soils. From the beginning, his objective was to cultivate vineyards with the utmost respect for the environment & his wines reflect all of the natural beauty, depth & flavor from those vines. The wines Jean-Marie crafts are a passionate testament to this region's multidimensional & ever-expanding potential.
