
Grape: Merlot (60%) & Welschriesling (40%)
Vineyard: in the village of Vajka nad Žitavou,
district Nitra. 0.6 ha, 4800 vines per ha. Planted in 2018, single guyot. Organic vineyard where herbs grow between rows. Clay-loam top soil, loess.
Making of: the grapes are hand-picked. Merlot spends 2 weeks macerating on the skin in open casks. Indigenous yeast only. Aged in old 225l oak barrels for 10 months.
Welschriesling spends 1 day macerating on the skins in open casks. Fermented in stainless steel tank for 3 weeks. Aged in 500l oak barrel.
Bottled by gravity without fining and filtration, no SO2 added.
Personality: Fresh and fruity, with gorgeous acidity. All ripe red fruits on the nose, with lip-smacking sour plum and raspberries on the palate. Light bodied and ultra-quaffable, with a pleasant whisper of slightly-chalky tannins.
